Our professions, both engineering and design, self-select for people who have the ability to generate and decode complex mental models. Many of these same people have well above average abilities at rote memorization. Many get pleasure from closing their eyes wandering through the innards of their computer or their design model without reference to any physical (visual, aural, etc.) manifestation.
